Winter Hibachi Races Renamed the Tim White Series

This year's Saturday Winter Beer Can Races (also known as the Winter Hibachis) are being named the "Tim White Series" in memory of Tim White who was an active participant in these Races, a former SSYC member, and part of a sailing family who have been long time SSYC members. Tim was well liked throughout the Harbor and by all racers.

You can race in a single race or the entire Series covering four Saturdays. The races are on Jan 9,23,30, and February 13.

The Races start at noon. If you forget to signup in advance, you can do so at the committee boat just before the race. Those who will be enjoying an afternoon "Lunch on the Bay" on the committee boat should call ahead to let us know you are coming (949) 646-3201 ext 2, and should arrive by 10:30 a.m.

See Racing Tab (at top of website) for more information.

Race to Mexico

NEWPORT TO MEXICO RACE WEEK. April 24, 2010 is the new date for the Border Run Race, the day after the April 23d start of the Newport to Ensenada Race.

For those who cannot participate in the Newport to Ensenada Race or who would prefer a somewhat shorter race, Saturday, April 24, is the new date for the race from Newport Beach that goes into Mexico's waters, then finishes in San Diego. The race is called the "Border Run Race." SSYC is now the Organizing Authority for this race. To sign up for the Border Run Race and for more information, go to XS Racing's webpage at: www.theborderrun.org

The day before the start of the Border Run Race is the historic and challenging Newport to Ensenada Race. If you prefer this challenging race be sure to sign up early. Since its beginnings in 1948, this has become one of the preeminent races on the West Coast. You can learn more and sign up by going to their webpage: www.NOSA.org. SSYC has been a long time friend and supporter of this historic race. SSYC together with Dana Point Yacht Club will be hosting the Ensenada Tune Up Race approximately three weeks before the Ensenada Race (on Saturday April 3), and once again, SSYC will maintain its hospitality suite at the race headquarters in downtown Ensenada as a welcome respite for sailors finishing the race.

We encourage everyone to participate in Mexico Race Week by joining one of the races, helping with the race activities, or just joining one of the many parties.
