SSYC offers a full agenda of racing activities year round. We invite recreational boaters, beginner racers and serious racers to our series of regattas all year round in Southern California. These races are for all types of sailboaters - PHRF or one design.

Some of the most popular club sponsored racing events are the Summer and Winter Beer Can Races (aka our Hibachi series). Those not racing enjoy a dinner on the bay from our "start boat".

We also sponsor the historic Crew of Two Around Catalina, and on the same day, the shorter Double Dash around the oil islands, with all profits going to support the kids programs at the Newport Sea Base.

South Shore Yacht Club is also the organizing authority for what may become the premier West Coast Racing event, namely the Border Run Race from Newport to San Diego, rounding the Mexican Islands for the longer course. The Border Run Races have a goal of raising $1 million dollars for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. All boats are welcome. Our members actively represent SSYC in races sponsored by other yacht clubs throughout the world. SSYC is a member of the Southern California Yachting Association, USSailing and has reciprocal privileges with other yacht clubs worldwide.
